Cafe Haunts: Wood & Steel, Mr & Ms, Seven Cups

2:15 PM

I have concluded that the latest trend in F&B to happen to Malaysia would be the new rise of hipster cafes. There's a sort of novelty about sipping on a flat white with artistically drawn coffee art on it & we'd gladly overlook the exorbitant price of RM10 per cup for a coffee. But then again, baristas have better coffee brewing skills than our Nescafe 'just add hot water' skills. Here are a few that I've been to recently!

Wood & Steel

Wood & Steel, located in The Strand, Kota Damansara, is a cafe that combines food, art and furniture and blends them nicely together. (pun not intended) I went there with my ex-schoolmate, Ai Li and it was great finally getting to catch up with her after almost 4 months of being apart since school ended. We managed to find a parking right in front of Wood & Steel as it was about 11am. Good parking, good coffee, good music & good vibes! Plus points to any restaurant/cafe that plays John Mayer.

I had the Salmon Scrambled, which is basically an omelette with salmon bits in it served with two slices of toast. Overpriced (RM10) for a simple omelette but it was nonetheless delicious. Ai Li had the Breakfast In Bed -- really good Eggs Benedict.

One thing about Wood & Steel -- you can actually purchase the furniture if you wish to have them in your house! There's also an art gallery upstairs. Perfect for art lovers! Something else I really loved about Wood & Steel? The super friendly barista who took our orders.

Oh, and their kitchen is closed after 5pm, so they only serve coffee & cakes after 5!

Mr & Ms

After hanging out with Ai Li, the boyfriend picked me up and we headed to Mr & Ms for a late lunch! My eating hours are screwed up, either brunch or usually no breakfast, then a late lunch or no brunch if I've had lunch, then dinner :(

Mr & Ms is located in Oasis Ara Damansara, just somewhere around Citta Mall. Ara Damansara is really secluded btw O.O We went there to visit our friend Sam who was working there part time! He served us really well, if only we could've nominated him for some Employee Of The Month award! Hahahaha.

Had the Meaty Big Brekkie priced at RM21.90! Basically it consisted of a whole lot of meat (protein, anyone?), some toast, some scrambled eggs, baked beans and a hash brown! Didnt' really like the baked beans that much, apparently they used real beans and I'm probably just used to eating the canned ones. Lolol.

 Sneak peek of the menu.

Seven Cups

Trust my best friend to discover the best cafes in PJ. Dee found a little cafe tucked away in Empire Damansara. For those who don't know where Empire Damansara is, it's right next to DPAC, Damansara Perfoming Arts Centre. Really loved the whole vibe of Empire Damansara although it was a little too secluded for my liking.

Had Flat Whites, as usually, and a Cookies & Cream cake. Really really loved the cake, it was soft and fluffy, not too hard/dry and tasted like heaven on a white plate. Seven Cups really gives off this chill, relaxing vibe even though we went at an hour where there were plenty of people there. We didn't feel rushed at all, which is normally what I feel whenever I enter a busy location.
